Does a simple / entry level CFW exist?

I'm new to the PS3, I've managed to install Rebug 4,84 DEX Cobra 8.1 onto my Phat PS3 but I'm feeling overwhelmed.

There are so many options, most tutorials I look up appear to be out of date for my firmware.

I have so many questions that I don't know where to start.

I've managed to get PS3, PS2, PSX, PSP and some PSN arcade games working but I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm just following tutorials but not really taking anything in as there's just too much to learn!
